Dr. Anna Szlavi’s Events That Make an Impact in STEM

JKU ACM Celebration of Women in Computing 2026 (Austria)
At this two-day event sponsored by ACM and hosted by JKU, we presented more than 30 student projects that aimed to make an impact on computing, and broadly STEM, by creating a more gender-diverse and inclusive environment. The projects, ranging from social media campaigns through websites to treasure hunts and workshops, all tackled specific challenges about gender and inclusion in STEM, from bias in AI systems to the lack of relatable role models in STEM.

Past Events
For the 5th time, the women of Kiel University presented their work on March 6, 2026, two days before International Women’s Day. From students to professors, from projects to research, this event presented the work and studies of the women of Kiel University.
Dr. Anna Szlavi presented the lessons and best practices of the student projects at her JKU course Intro to Gender Studies in Science and Engineering.
This two-day event, organized by the Institute for Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas in Crete, aimed to incorporate principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity in the research practice of Computer Science and more broadly in STEM. Dr. Anna Szlavi was the keynote speaker and special guest of the event, explaining the latest trends in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in computing and STEM, while also presenting projects that make an impact.
The International Conference on Informatics in Schools: Situation, Evolution and Perspectives (ISSEP) is a forum for researchers and practitioners in the area of Informatics education. At the 17th ISSEP Conference, held in Budapest, Hungary in October 2024, Dr. Anna Szlavi gave a keynote speech on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in IT Education.
